It’s On The Road meets The Road.

A collection of hilarious and melancholic reports from Justin Heazlewood, aka The Bedroom Philosopher, and his wealth of experience as a touring Folkstar. Read about his epic battles with drunk punters, scatty rockstars, aloof groupies and, mostly, himself. These tell-all tales allow exclusive access to the depths of the performer psyche.
A bit about the above photo, from Nic Low, International Writing Program:
“The project is called The Bookwallah. In [2012] we’re sending six writers across India by train. They will present at festivals and explore Indian writing and culture. They’ll be accompanied by some unusual luggage: ingenious hand-made suitcases that transform into book cases. Together the cases form a portable library / art installation of top Australian books. The library will feature at the Mumbai LitFest, the Hay Festival Kerala, and venues in Goa, Bangalore and Chennai. We’re also donating books to universities and libraries along the way, and targeting Indian publishers through catalogues and industry invites. It’s all aimed at raising the profile of Australian writing in India.
The books have been selected by our travelling Australian authors Kirsty Murray, Michelle de Kretser and Benjamin Law. They’ve chosen books personally inspirational to them, or that they consider important to Australian writing. They’d like to include The Bedroom Philosopher Diaries!”
BIG IN INDIA!
“Justin’s creative process is simultaneously glamourous and hideous. Think of the guy as a local Woody Allen for our times, with a guitar.”
Smith Journal.
“With pigeon-toed humour and bruising honesty, this is a tour diary filled with pith and pain, whose observations that will break your heart at some points, and have you grinning like a fool for the rest.”
Benjamin Law.
“Bedroom brings the pain. Full of contradictions. By turns too delicate for the world and then too harsh.”
Dave Graney.
“When he isn’t floundering in overwrought literary passages, Heazlewood can be quite funny.”
Australian Book Review.
“If you don’t know his music, it’s probably easier to find it than this. If you don’t like musical comedy but do like reading about comedians, this is a book worth searching out. Is that everyone covered?”
Australian Tumbleweeds.
“Something about @beddyphil’s book, I can’t put it down. I’ve got not 1 but 2 SMILES on my dial.”

“That dude is funny.”
